At 9:56 p.m., police in Wilcox, a town in Cochise County, attempted to stop a 2023 Telluride that was driving at a high rate of speed.
Arthur Mathurin, a 32-year-old Eatontown resident, failed to yield, and continued to drive at an excessive rate of speed, the Cochise County's Sherriff Office said.
Mathurin eventually bailed from his vehicle along with four other people, the sheriff's office said. Police were only able to apprehend one of the people and turned him over to US Border Patrol for processing, the sheriff's office said. Cochise County is located on the United States-Mexico border and has seen a surge in migrants coming into the area.
Mathurin is currently on federal probation, the sheriff's office said.
